Description

Summary

Establishes project objectives and schedules, directs everyday operations of projects, monitors project performance, identifies deviations, and takes appropriate corrective actions.

Essential Functions

  1. Assists sales in developing proposals and accounts.
  2. Makes client presentations, as required.
  3. Establishes project objectives in terms of project requirements, schedule, and budget from discussions with Applications department, account manager, and customer.
  4. Participates in project estimating sessions, as required.
  5. Directs everyday operations of projects and assure adherence to good engineering practices, including the generation of sound concepts.
  6. Keeps clients informed of project status on a regular basis.
  7. Maintains an appropriate awareness with the project team for any established project confidentiality.
  8. Maintains a record of project activities through the use of the project management electronic file system, utilizing the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  9. Monitors project cost versus established estimate; make customer, TDS management, and salesman aware of potential cost deviations and assist in formulating corrective action, as required.
  10. Through project monitoring and client contact, identifies and maintains a log of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  11. Provides direction to assigned personnel in concept, design, detailing, or other project phases, including developing and/or approving solutions to specific problems.
  12. Organizes and participates in design reviews
  13. Monitors project during fabrication, assembly, debug and installation of equipment, and approve modifications and substitution of materials, as required.
  14. Schedules and participates in the safety review of fabricated equipment prior to tear down.
  15. Coordinates project activities within TDS to ensure that all aspects of the project are brought to a successful conclusion.
  16. Interfaces with other company departments and customer representatives for the purpose of establishing project requirements, defining direction, and instilling confidence in customers with TDS capabilities with regard to project implementation.
  17. Communicates project activities between TDS management, personnel, and customer representatives to ensure the project direction is being maintained.
  18. Monitors project status with regard to costs and schedule by keeping TDS management and personnel informed of deviations that should be addressed with the customer.
  19. Provides direction and support in completing the design, detail, and engineering efforts associated with the assigned project.
  20. Stays current and participates in company-sponsored opportunities concerning technological developments, design practices, and manufacturing processes.
  21. May direct and train individuals from the same and other classifications.
  22. Effectively interact with managers, supervisors, and hourly team members across all departments.
  23. Must be willing to participate in specialized training as assigned by supervisory personnel.
  24. Willingness to travel on an “as required basis”.
  25. Additional duties as needed and assigned.

Requirements

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Management/Business Administration or equivalent work experience and technical capability.
  2. Read and interpret part prints, tool drawings, and technical instructions and descriptions.
  3. Apply mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, equations and formulas, statistics, and standard engineering data.
  4. Possess team skills and experience as an effective team leader.
  5. Proficient in oral and written communications skills.
  6. Perform and/or review complex analysis as related to technical designs.
  7. Plan and prioritize work schedules while dealing with day-to-day changes and interruptions.
  8. Ability to deal with factors not easily evaluated, interpret results, exercise exceptional judgment, and make responsible decisions.
  9. Experience using Microsoft Project.
  10. Experience using Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
  11. No direct supervisory responsibilities, but routinely serves as a leader to other engineers or designers assigned to a specific project.

Preferred:

  1. Experience working with government entities.
